Metal Up Your grAss!

Growing up in a little shitty town outside of Stockholm in the 80's was all about metal for me. It all started out with the usual Kiss and Twisted Sister but moved pretty fast to more heavy groups such as W.A.S.P, Iron Maiden, Ozzy and Metallica.

One thing in general in the 80's was important for the swedish metalfans and that was a radioshow called Rockbox that aired every saturday between 18.15-1900, yup thats right, 45 headbangin minutes a week was all that we got from the public radio. Here you had this dude Per who was the host that interviewed almost everybody from Bruce Dickinson, Lars Ulrich and Ronnie James Dio to more obuscure artists like King Diamond, Kreator and UDO (yup, the little german who gave us Balls To The Wall), Per also told us that the alarmclock on his stereo went off every morning playing Madhouse with thrashgods Anthrax.

Anyway, this show had such a major input on me and really made me more interested in music in general. So here you go, Grass top 10 stringshredding, skinbanging, hairraising, ballbreaking monsterous thrashmetalfukkers ever.

10. Angel Witch - Angel Of Death. This is like the godfathers of thrashmetal, you can judge for yourself but dont come and say Metallica didnt have this song in mind when they wrote For Whom The Bell Tolls.

9. Exodus - The Toxic Waltz. One of the best thrashvideos ever made, anyone up for a dance?

8. Overkill - In Union We Stand. The singer in this band calls himself Bobby Blitz and got a face only a mother could love, still he manages to lead these New Jersey legends year after year.

7. Agent Steel - Unstoppable Force. This was the last song I heard on my first ever episode of Rockbox and its been a favourite for 22 years now.

6. Flotsam & Jetsam - No Place For Disgrace. Jason Newstead used to play in this band, Jason who? You say.

5. Testament - Trial By Fire. Chuck Billy got one of the best voices in thrashmetal.

4. Suicidal Tendencies - You Can't Bring Me Down. Bay-Areafavourite

3. Metallica - Fight Fire With Fire. A bit predictible but Metallica is Metallica.

2. Slayer - South Of Heaven. No list would be complete without Slayer.

1. Anthrax - Armed And Dangerous. This song just hits the nail. The beautiful intro, the melodic voice of Joey Belladonna and the pure fuckin power of Anthrax!
